The Retail Reimagined panel turned that question around. Rather than starting with AI, virtual try-on, personalization, or other emerging technologies, the discussion asked a more fundamental question: What does the customer expect — and what must be true operationally for a brand to deliver it?

Four perspectives came together across fashion operations, couture and design, retail technology, and immersive commerce. Despite very different businesses and approaches, the discussion converged on a common conclusion:

The customer increasingly expects brands to understand them as an individual — their taste, context, lifestyle and aspirations — rather than simply recommend products based on what they previously clicked or purchased.

At the same time, brands face a difficult operational challenge. They must become faster and more responsive without sacrificing the creative identity, craftsmanship and human judgment that makes the brand desirable in the first place.

The panel identified five major shifts:

Retail is moving from inventory-led to customer-led discovery.

Personalization is becoming contextual rather than transactional.

AI should accelerate human judgment, not replace taste.

Immersive technology must solve a customer problem to create real value.

Physical retail is becoming an experience and community platform, not simply a place to transact.

The future of retail is not technology replacing the human experience. It is technology making the human experience more relevant, personal, efficient and scalable.
